U.S. stocks fell Tuesday after Walmart cut its earnings forecast, sending other retail shares lower and adding to concern that consumer spending might not be strong enough to keep the U.S. out of a recession.

The S&P 500 retreated by 1.15% to 3,921.05.

Stock futures climbed early on Wednesday morning as traders await the Federal Reserve’s latest interest rate decision, scheduled to be announced Wednesday afternoon.

Investors are also awaiting a key announcement from the Federal Reserve. The central bank will announce its latest interest rate decision on Wednesday afternoon. Markets widely expect a three-quarter percentage point increase in the benchmark rate.
